OSHA Training for New York Electricians

By Meg Whynot-Young

Over the past decade, United Alliance Services has provided OSHA Compliance training to the Joint Industry Board of the Electrical Industry (JIBEI) /NY Local 3. JIBEI manages the health and welfare benefits for the Local 3 membership. One of the benefits of being a Local 3 Union member is free training through the JIBEI Educational Trust Fund.

This program has allowed United Alliance Services to offer courses to its membership on the following topics:

PCB/Mercury:   Basic awareness training for those who may come into contact with PCBs in the course of their duties. This section of the course will provide students an overview of applicable federal, state and local regulations and policies regarding PCB management. The overall objective is to provide students with information needed to ensure their activities do not put themselves at risk when managing PCBs and PCB containing equipment.

Confined Space Initial Training:  This course is designed to provide training to participants on the scope, application, responsibilities for the host, entry, & controlling employers of the NEW confined space standards in construction (29CFR1926 Subpart AA) effective as of August 3rd, 2015.

Confined Space Refresher Training: Incorporates a review of the Confined Space Initial Training, and any regulatory updates. This program meets the applicable OSHA & NFPA annual refresher requirements.

40 Hour HAZWOPER Initial:  Five day class for members who could be exposed to potentially hazardous substances including hazardous waste, and are engaged in clean-up operations.

10 Hour HAZWOPER Refresher:  Anyone who has taken the 40-hour HAZWOPER course is required to maintain their certification by taking an annual refresher course. This course satisfies this requirement.

Many jobs will require electricians to have completed certain safety trainings to begin work. We value our partnership with the JIBEI and are grateful for the opportunity to bring vital safety training to its membership.
